New Building and Modernization of the Highland Elementary School Campus | Oakland, Ca

As a part of the Oakland Unified School District’s Proposition B and J capital improvement program, the Highland Elementary School Campus underwent a $13.4 Million transformation that represents an investment in the community for families in need of quality educational services. The design incorporates energy and cost-efficient features and technologies, resulting in a healthy learning and working environment for students, teachers, and staff. The reconfigured landscaping provides site features that better serve the diverse array of student age and interest groups.

The improvement’s included:

  • New classroom building, featuring nine classrooms, four flex rooms, and a single multipurpose room
  • Collaborative for High Performance Schools certified; natural lighting, passive ventilation, low-toxicity materials, and low energy consumption utilities
  • Renovation of three kindergarten classrooms and administrative area in the existing classroom building
  • Site work, including new landscaping, a synthetic turf field, striping, two playground structures, and several shade structures.
  • Remodel and repartitioning of existing modular buildings
